Apple are constantly surprising us and now they’ve sprung this on us. It seems they are looking into a new social network called iGroups to be used on the iPhone and iPhone 4G. As reported from PatentlyApple, a new patent from Apple has been discovered, explaining just how the new social communications app will work.
It is thought that this new service will be used mainly with the next gen iPhone but also with Apples MobileMe suite.
But what is this iGroups thing?
Well as far as we can make out, iGroups will allow you to stay in close contact with a group of friends, with a live hub directing all messages you send into one place for easy access for all your friends to see. I guess it’s kind of like a notice board or “wall” that you get in the likes of Facebook.
Yet it doesn’t seem to be as open as Facebook on the privacy front as PatentlyApple say it uses a new type of technology which involves a cryptographic key generation system, which will ensure that private data is maintained in a safe place.
It’s an interesting idea, but I don’t see why we really need it……..
What do you think?
