Yes, of course this is what always happens. We get told one thing, and then another, well the latest rumor to suffer that fate is the one involving the iPhone and video calls.
We were starting to get some evidence that the next iPhone would have support for video calls because of images and specs uncovered in a SDK. Then only the other day, O2, who are the main carrier of the iPhone in the UK put up new pricing information on their site stating the tariff for video calls on their iPhone packages.
Of course that got everyone going, why would we need to know the tariff for video calls if there was no support for it in the current iPhone??? Oh, well it must be coming in the iPhone 4G of course!
Well according to O2 it’s not anyway, they were quick to acknowledge the “error” and have since reprimanded the situation.
“The iPhone section of our website states video calling is charged at the same price as voice calls. We can confirm that this was listed in error. We will be amending our website shortly to clarify this.
So for now anyway O2 are denying it anyway, but could the iPhone really bring back the dead art of video calling?
