We’ve heard reports that the iPhone 4 is fast, but we also have to remember that it will finally support multitasking (so will the iPhone 3GS in an update) and in order to have efficient multitasking capabilities, you need lots of RAM, and reports are coming in now confirming that the iPhone 4 has in fact 512MB of RAM.
The original iPhone and iPhone 3G contained 128MB of RAM, while the iPhone 3GS was boosted to 256MB of RAM. The iPad also contains 256MB of RAM. Apple said that iOS 4 features such as multi-tasking on the original and 3G iPhone weren’t going to be supported, as there simply isn’t enough RAM.
So the new iPhone 4 has twice the RAM of its predecessor, and it will need it if it’s to run smooth multitasking and be able to handle that iMovie app
