iPhone 4 Antennagate Issues Wouldn’t Affect It’s Image Says PR Expert

I’m sure most of you are probably fed up listening to everyone going on about the iPhone 4 antenna issues. But a PR expert now is saying that as big a deal as people have made of it, it shouldn’t really affect Apple’s image.

Apple’s initial response about the iPhone 4 antenna issue was, poor…. to say the least. With Steve Jobs saying it wasn’t an issue and trying to blame it on a software display issue. However Apple made up for it according to crisis communications expert Jonathon Bernstein. He said that Steve Jobs initially came across as arrogant and aggressive defending the iPhone 4. Then he mellowed somewhat and eventually explained what went wrong and offered a satisfying solution for most.

Jonathon reckons that baring any other hickups with the iPhone 4 or other products in the near future, Apple should be ok as far as it’s image is concerned.

“The best defense against it is to have a strong cushion of good will already established. Apple has that,” Bernstein said.

However he didn’t think it was all rosy, Apple going and pointing fingers at other manufacturers was the wrong thing to do, it was an attempt to get themselves out of the spotlight, that failed miserably. He didn’t feel Jobs did a good enough job at reassuring people about the iPhone 4′s design and has got people questioning it.

He also pointed out that the reason Apple receives so much scrutiny and publicity for this kind of thing is because people have such high expectations from them. The bigger they are, the harder they fall phenomenon applies here really.

What about you guys, do you think this whole antenna ordeal will affect Apple’s image? Would it make you think twice the next time you buy an iPhone?
