No matter how much Apple wish the antenna issue would just go away, it wont. In fact, the more Apple try and cover it up, the more people seem to find out about it. I was shocked the other day when my Dad of all people mentioned it to me, and he wouldn’t be one for following technology, I can assure you that.
Apple have tried to tell us that it’s just a bit of display trickery, but were better than that, we know the real truth is because of the new antenna design. This issue is causing so much controversy, even the Consumer Report cant recommend the iPhone 4.
One Wall Street Analyst believes that the continued attention on the antenna issues along with the consumer report recommendation, could cause some trouble for Apple.
However to date, there appears to be no slow down in the demand for the iPhone 4, so the estimated shipping of 7.5 million units is still on the cards. But if this antenna issue, becomes a bigger issue, this could be revised.
Shaw Wu with Kaufman Bros said it would be a simple and relatively inexpensive fix for Apple to discount or give away free bumper cases to relieve the antenna issue. The Apple-branded protective cases prevent users’ skin from touching the external metal band on the iPhone 4, which also serves as the device’s antennas.
The cases retail for $29 and Apple have even said so themselves that this solves the antenna issue, or any other third party case. But Apple are refusing to offer them as a solution at a discounted price or for free. They even issued a memo to employees stating not to give away any free bumpers after one business received free bumpers.
What about you guys, would the Antenna Issue put you off buying the iPhone 4?
