I’m sure you’ve all heard about the whole issue with the antenna on the iPhone 4. It’s a new revolutionary design, and is said to offer better signal than all previous iPhone models. However, there’s just one flaw, if you hold it a certain way, you lose pretty much all your signal.
Now Apple tried to cover this up, claiming that it was just the display tricking us all into thinking we had more signal than we thought. However, no matter how much Apple try to convince is that we’re not losing signal, when all our calls drop, and texts fail to send, we know we’ve no signal. It’s a right pain……
So much so in fact, that the consumer report has now punched Apple right where it hurts, and aren’t recommending the iPhone 4 to consumers. Instead, they suggest going with the 3GS or some other phone model. They tested 3 iPhone 4′s in a control room with a cell tower emulator and found significant problems with reception when you held the phone over it’s lower left corner.
Now this is nothing new to us, but now it’s confirmed by a party with a bit of influence when it comes to consumer purchasing decisions. Phone’s with internal regular antennas like the iPhone 3GS and Palm Pre don’t have this issue which contradicts Apples statement saying that signal loss when covering the antenna is “a fact of life for every wireless phone.”
So despite loving the stunning display and 720p Video, Consumer Reports can’t recommend the iPhone 4 to you because of this critical flaw in the iPhone 4 design.
What about you guys? Would this antenna issue prevent you from purchasing the iPhone 4?
