As nice as Apple thought they were giving us all free bumpers, they don’t seem to do much good. Yes the may solve Apple’s antenna woes, but that’s about it really. Bumpers may protect the edges of your iPhone 4, but honestly, how many of you actually drop your phone directly on its side?
The majority of falls and drops that a smartphone will experience over its life will be onto its front or back. We’ve already proven that bumpers aren’t much good for protecting that shiny glass casing in the iPhone 4.
Well if your looking for even more evidence that bumpers are pretty useless, Nick Bilton from the New York Times has more proof for you. The image below is what happened to his iPhone 4, complete with bumper after he dropped it onto concrete.
Now luckily for him, this was only a tester unit sent to him by Apple (were still waiting for ours!) and it wasn’t his personal device, so he’s not too tramatised by the whole experience, but it goes to show, Bumpers don’t do a whole lot for protecting your iPhone 4.
