Now that you can jailbreak the iPhone 4 , it means that you can install a little app from cydia that will allow you to use Facetime over 3G. Now of course we’ve shown you that little trick that will allow you to use Facetime over 3G, but how much data will you chew through in that time?
Well according to a brief test by 9to5Mac, about three megabytes a minute. 9to5Mac conducted a 5 minute FaceTime call “with lots of movement” on a jailbroken iPhone 4, and in total it used 14.7 MB of data. That works out to about 3MB a minute.
Now that’s a fair bit and you can see why Apple only like to use this over Wi-Fi for the moment, there’s no way that AT&T’s network would be able to handle all that data flying about the place.
But then again, how many of you actually use FaceTime with the iPhone 4? I’ve yet to meet someone who uses it.
