One Third Of iPhone Users Waiting For Verizon To Upgrade

And here’s the news AT&T really didn’t want to hear, with a Verizon iPhone launch becoming ever more likely in January, a survey of 1,000 customers shows us that a lot of people are holding out for Verizon before they upgrade their iPhones.

The report from Morpace shows that the majority of customers who are going to upgrade to the iPhone 4 on Verizon are already Verizon customers. 51% said they were waiting to buy it and those sales would probably come at a loss to Blackberry or Android devices.

AT&T subscribers aren’t as loyal as the Verizon ones, and 23% said they would be interested in switching to Verizon for an iPhone and 47% said they “would consider” a switch to Verizon once (if ) the iPhone becomes available there.

What’s more, over one third of existing iPhone users have held off on upgrading to the iPhone 4 because they are waiting for it to be available on another carrier before they upgrade.

If Verizon do ever offer the iPhone, I’d expect to see Android and Blackberry take a hit there, Android has managed to establish a base with Verizon, but if the iPhone comes in it would take away a good few of those customers
